TIPS FOR SPEAKING FLUENTLY ON A CUE CARD

IELTS is basically a test which is meant for going abroad.There are many students who gets extremely nervous when they have to speak on the cue card .They do not know what to speak and hence the result is speaking two or three lines and blank!Well,this is not what the invigilator expects and because of nervousness the students ends up getting low bands.Then they complain that they worked really hard but all in vain.So students I have an easy strategy for all those candidates who fail to come up with ideas or expressions .There are various rules to speak impressively on the cue card,but before that I would like to enlighten you all with some of the information of the cue cards.

  • Cue card is mainly related with personal experiences.
  • If you have not experienced any of the given situation,do not panic and imagine things.A popular phrase FAKE IT AND MAKE IT goes well for the cue card.
  • Use idioms,connectors and expressions like Well! Surely! Alas! which will certainly make the cue card more interesting.
  • Cue card should seem realistic and not at all crammed up.
  • Try putting a story in the cue card which would involve your own personal experience.
  • Always maintain an eye contact with the invigilator which depicts the sense of confidence of a particular candidate.
  • If in case you are blank!Do not panic and try binding up the cue card .
  • It is not necessary that the cue card if spoken for exact two minutes will do great .Even if one speak for 1 minute 40 seconds but speak confidently will grab 7 and above bands.
  • Few grammatical mistakes but fluently spoken with no pauses will surely be a 7 band and above cue card.
  • Mirror practice is one of the best method to improve and grow confidence in one's self.
  • Recording one's own voice is helpful in self assessment.
So its a good news for students who are not that good at tenses but are fluent in speaking.

STRATEGIES TO SPEAK EFFICIENTLY ON ANY CUE CARD:
  1. Jot down points on the paper.
  2. Forgot about the spellings and jot down abbreviations,keywords etc.(ultimately it is only for your understanding).
  3. Make at least 8-9 keywords and try to elaborate all of these points.
  4. Never stop immediately but give a good exquisite conclusion line.
  5. You can look at the paper to see what next keyword is and elaborate it.Do not forget to maintain the eye contact with the invigilator.
Hence,Speaking Test in IELTS not only depends upon the good command over English language but also the entire body language ,confidence,eye contact and a smile.So all those students who have upcoming speaking test ,must focus on all these things to achieve high bands in IELTS .ALL THE BEST!
